Atos opens its 2nd largest R&D center in Grenoble Computerworld

Located in Echirolles in Isre, the research and development center just made official by Atos is one of the most important of the IT supplier in the region. The specialties of this 19,200m site focus on artificial intelligence, high performance computing and green computing.

Inaugurated yesterday, Monday October 20 in Echirolles (Isère), a town near Grenoble, the research and development center of the Atos IT services group is focused on innovative technologies in the energy, power calculation and high performance (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI). Presented as the company’s second largest site in France, this 19,200m² space brings together the 1,000 Atos employees, previously based in Grenoble and on its historic Echirolles campus. With a capacity of up to 1,320 people, it plans to recruit 250 additional people by next year.

Subsidized by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, via the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and by Grenoble-Alpes Métropole, the center currently employs 300 people, including a hundred who work on the development of AI algorithms. As such, the supplier’s teams are already partners in the MIAI@Grenoble Alpes program of the interdisciplinary institute of artificial intelligence in Grenoble (3IA), certified by the State, with priority applications for health, the environment and the environment. ‘energy.

A site that wants to be eco-responsible

Through its design and works, the site actively participates in the CSR and decarbonization strategy of the Atos group. Holder of the Effinergie 2013+ label, the building meets all insulation standards, has nearly 500m² of photovoltaic panels and reuses the heat from the servers. Committed to decarbonization, the R&D center is already working on several actions to reduce energy consumption. As part of this, projects have been launched to aggregate building data and monitor the carbon footprint of IT using AI and low-power technologies.

Dedicated to green energies, the Atos Worldgrid teams on the Grenoble campus will present to customers who operate energy in water, wind, electricity, oil and gas, solutions ranging from infrastructure maintenance critical to the real-time operation of distributed networks. HPC and AI activities will respond to the critical issues of states in the current race for computing power and the development of AI algorithms. Finally, the center’s technologies will also be geared towards the cloud and cybersecurity as well as the digital transformation of manufacturers and other local players in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region via the Technical Services entity.
