What award did you receive and in what context?

Our software, Mamoscreen, helps with the interpretation of digital mammograms to detect suspicious masses and determine if it is a cancerous (malignant) tumour. We had raised €5 million in 2018, which took us from research to the finished product. The new fundraising of €15 million that we have just done will allow us both to accelerate marketing, particularly in the United States, but also to tackle the next generation of the product.

Tell us about your business, your story…

This company was founded by two INRIA researchers, one based in Nice and the other in Paris. Both wanted the fruit of their research to translate into a real product that would be useful to people. And as they were doing research on computer image recognition with algorithms, they tackled health issues. They have designed a first product that allows the surgeon to more easily navigate through the different images they may need when in the operating room. It was a formidable system, without contact and just with gestures recognized by a camera, which made it possible to manipulate the images. In 2017 the company won an international competition on artificial intelligence with the MammoScreen project.

What are the assets that, in your opinion, made the difference in obtaining these distinctions?

Therapixel is a French software publisher specializing in Artificial Intelligence applied to medical imaging. To develop Mamoscreen, we worked in a very particular way. We worked very early on in direct collaboration with the users, that is to say the radiologists, to really understand what was important to them in order to provide a tool that would truly complement their practices. But also we focused only on this project. Concentrating all your energy, all your intelligence, on a single project at a time allows you to go further.

What are your current projects for the development of your business?

We are growing the US sales team and working on a second generation of products. The field of software is constantly innovating. We are working in parallel on the question of how to relieve the practitioner of all the time-consuming tasks so that he can concentrate on the essential, that is to say his analysis of the images.

Tell us about the leader you are?

I bring to the company my very business profile and my experience of twenty years of international practice in a similar field. I also bring a way of working that is very open and very collaborative. And the fact of having always operated in an Anglo-Saxon environment until now, a great pragmatism.
