Made by Google Conference: Announcement of Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro and Google Pixel Watch

This Thursday, October 6, Google will offer its event Made By Google which will reveal many new features within the Pixel range. If it will be held physically in the Williamsburg district of New York City, we will still be able to participate thanks to a live broadcast set up by Google!

The starting signal will take place at 4 p.m. in Franceor 10 a.m. ET local time.

If we do not yet know all the content of the conference, and Google could well have some surprises in store for us, we can safely say that the brand’s new smartphones will be presented. The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are thus in the game with their final price and their release date, but that’s not all!

Google will, in fact, come face to face with Apple in the connected watch market with its Pixel Watch. We had already had a first teaser of these three products during the Google I/O keynote last May. We already know, for example, that the Pixel7 will run on Android 13 and will have the latest generation of Tensor, Google’s custom chip.

A lot of information has already been revealed, more or less officially, including a complete technical sheet of the new Pixels. We learned a lot, even too much for all those who hoped for a pure discovery during the conference, on new products.

In addition to the Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro and the Google Pixel Watch, Google will also show several additions to the Nest home automation catalog. Will all new types of products be there or will we be entitled to new versions of the firm’s devices, we will know very soon.

If we are to believe the leaks, the changes compared to the Pixel 6 will not be extraordinary, technically. However, it is on the software base that Google seems to have mainly improved its copy. The Pixel 7 Pro would thus be equipped with a “Macro Focus” mode for taking macro photos, while the two models would see the addition of a “Motion Blur” mode for video.

Google: a gigantic company

If everyone knows the Google search engine, you should know that this is not the only field of action of the American company. And clearly, that’s saying something. Founded in 1998 in Silicon Valley, California, Google became in 2015 a subsidiary of the company Alphabet. The goal in creating this new conglomerate of companies was to separate the different sectors that were previously managed directly by Google.

In itself, Google Inc. keeps all its activities related to the search engine, Internet services like Gmail, its web subsidiaries like Youtube, but also the Android operating system.

The other subsidiaries range from Google Nestthe group’s home automation subsidiary, until loon, a company that brings the Internet to remote areas through balloons placed in the stratosphere. But that’s not all, Alphabet is interested in many fields related to technology such as biotechnology, urbanization, autonomous cars, geothermal energy, cybersecurity, and also artificial intelligence with the famous company DeepMind Technologies. , as well as X which is a research laboratory.

Deepmind and X, formerly Google X, are particularly known for their great technological advances, such as the creation of the driverless car; the Google Car and game programs like AlphaGo which was able to beat the Go game world champion in May 2017.

And that’s particularly impressive, because the game of Go was known to be extremely complex for an artificial intelligence to learn. By comparison, Deep Blue had managed to beat world chess champion Garry Kasparov as early as 1996.

Throwback to the previous Google conference: Google I/O

Google’s last keynote was made last May and had already revealed a lot of new things to us, both material with the teasing of the future Pixel 7, which we will discover in detail during the conference on October 6, but also the new version of their in-house OS: Android 13!

Available in beta phase since the conference on certain devices, Android 13 offers interesting new features, without revolutionizing Android. The program includes the following changes:

  • Improved experience on large screens and therefore for tablets, foldable smartphones and computers
  • The possibility of choosing a specific language application by application
  • An important change on the notifications which will no longer be sent automatically, but which you will have to activate yourself
  • The arrival of the Multi-System” which improves Google Cast and allows greater ease of communication between your various Android devices (Smartphones, TV, Chromescast, Tablets, etc.)
  • Icon color customization
  • Adding quick settings
  • Increased privacy for your files
  • And many others !

Google Wallet will also make a comeback in place of Google Play. Google’s wallet was also one of the new features that received the most announcements during the two days of the conference.

For the rest, we were treated to new features around:

  • AndroidStudiothe development environment for Android applications
  • artificial intelligence with LaMDA2 (for Language Model for Dialog Applications) which improves the generative language model that Google designed for dialogue last year
  • The general improvement in safety with, in particular, a strengthening of thetwo-factor authentication
  • A new database system named AlloyDB
  • additions for Google Translate with the addition of 24 new languages such as Sanskrit
  • Adding the multiple search in Google
  • The arrival of a immersive view in Google Maps
  • And finally privacy improvements with the idea of collecting less and erasing more. Indeed, if the data does not exist, it cannot be hacked.

The previous generation of Google smartphones: the Pixel 6

Released last year, the Pixel 6 was a real turning point in Google’s smartphone offering.

Excellent photophone, it has high quality sensors as well as top-level AI for everything that is to optimize your shots. On the quality / price ratio, the Pro version clearly ranks at the top of the ranking of the best smartphones for the photo.

Where most of these competitors of this standing exceed 1000 €, the Google Pixel 6 Pro has allowed itself to remain under 900 € and even to sometimes reach prices in the vicinity of 600 €. And that is for the most expensive version of this smartphone. Equipped with a 50-megapixel wide-angle sensor, combined with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor, the photo is not its only asset, however.

Indeed, it was equipped with the Google Tensor processor, which allowed it to achieve excellent performance. By creating its own SoC, Google was able to achieve exactly the smartphone it wanted.

The Google Pixel 6a, released this summer, allowed as many people as possible to enjoy Pixel quality for less than €460. An exceptional price for such an interesting device. Despite the concessions compared to its two big brothers, it remains a model of choice in the entry level for the Mountain View firm.

The Pixel 6s weren’t perfect, though. Their screen, although of very good quality, remains a little below the competition. If we were on a 6.4-inch OLED panel, the format remained Full HD + with “only” 90 Hz refresh rate for the Pixel 7. The Pro version went to QHD + with a 6.7 panel. inches at 120 Hz.

For the new generation that is coming, it seems that Google has not chosen to drastically modify the characteristics, but rather to count on a general improvement. The new Google Tensor 2 chip should boost everything and allow the arrival of some new features. The Pixel 7 will also have the chance to take advantage of the new version of Android: Android 13.

We wish to say thanks to the writer of this post for this awesome content
