Higher education establishments in Nice Méridi » PACA’s economic and political newsletter

This Tuesday, December 6, on the stand of the EPA Nice Ecovallée and the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, at SIMI, Xavier Rousselle, CEO of Isart Digital unveiled with Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Metropolis Côte d’Azur, the model of its future eco-campus.

Initially, at the start of the 2023 academic year, Isart Digital will open Isart Game Business School within Nice Prémium in Nice Méridia, the urban technology park piloted by the EPA. The establishment will have 120 students from the first year and nearly 400 over 3 years. In 2025, it will move to its eco-responsible campus including a student residence and a business incubator. It will then accommodate 1000 students.

“The reception of Isart Digital is part of a long-term policy that we have put in place in recent years and which aims to bring together at this prestigious school all the players in the video game sector (developers, publishers, service providers …) “, underlined Christian Estrosi on the occasion of this unveiling.

I am proud to note that the political choices we made almost 15 years ago in Nice today give us a competitive position as a European metropolis, with enhanced attractiveness, while other territories are trying somehow to pick up the pieces and catch up, both economically and ecologically ” he added.

Today, 48,000 students, 130 laboratories, 2,800 researchers, 20 international schools, a renowned “Université Côte d’Azur” university campus and scientific competitiveness clusters in cutting-edge sectors have chosen Nice and its territory. .

It is particularly in Nice Méridia, the urban technology park, and in Grand Arénas, the business and living district connected to the airport and the future multimodal exchange hub, that students rub shoulders with the assets of large groups, start-ups and research centers…

The new student city

Nice is on the map of the most attractive student towns. Fifth largest city in France, it now has 48,000 students compared to 25,000 in 2008. In 2030, the number of engineers trained in the area will have doubled, thanks to the deployment of schools, while 5,000 students and work-study students will have invested Nice Méridia, the urban technology park. Nice asserts itself today as the city of the alliance of talents between the academic world and the company. The arrival of internationally renowned Grandes Ecoles confirms this.

STUDY IN NICE

The establishment of several higher education establishments in Nice Méridia reinforces and diversifies the development of talents for companies alongside the Université Côte d’Azur, recognized for its excellence and which in 2016 won the prestigious Initiative d ‘Excellence (Idex), positioning it among the best universities in research. This ecosystem is an asset for the quality of training as well as for the economic development of the territory.

A project co-constructed by Université Côte d’Azur and the Nice-Côte d’Azur Metropolis, and financed under the State-Region plan contract, the Imredd (Mediterranean Institute for Research and Sustainable Development) is an original place for cooperation between researchers and teachers, students, business creators, economic partners and communities on a subject of societal challenge: the smart and resilient territory in the face of environmental problems and risks. Inaugurated in February 2020, this 5,000 m2 building, designed by architect Marc Barani, is exemplary in terms of energy and the environment.

It offers initial and continuous training around four main areas: the environment, risk management, energy and mobility. Adjoining the Imredd, the Nice Physics Institute, the “Inphyni”, soon to be delivered, will carry out work in four areas: environment and health, artificial intelligence, optical communication, and metrology. It is a joint research unit associated with the Côte d’Azur University and the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). Created in 2017, recognized nationally and internationally, it is the result of the merger of two research laboratories: the Condensed Matter Physics Laboratory historically based in Nice and the Non-Linear Institute of Nice based in Sophia Antipolis.

The Institute brings together 130 people: researchers, teachers[1]researchers, research support staff, students and doctoral students. Finally, the Sud des Métiers Campus, a unique learning center in France, led by the Nice Côte d’Azur Chamber of Commerce and Industry and supported by the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, the City of Nice and the Sud Region opened its doors last September. This 24,000 m2 SDP building, dedicated to work-study training from the CAP to the engineering degree, includes spaces for training, entrepreneurship, events, a learning center, catering, etc. as well as accommodation for work-study students and young workers. It will eventually accommodate 2,500 work-study students per year.

A new generation establishment serving young people, companies, employees and job seekers, the Campus offers personalized training courses, based on the skills and professions of the future thanks to a network of 1,500 partner companies. The training offered covers 12 very varied sectors such as health, digital, engineering, tourism and design, among others.

Five schools and training centers, leaders in their sector, have settled in Nice Premium. 42 Nice is a school of computer science and collective intelligence founded by Xavier Niel, which welcomes, free of charge and without condition of diploma, 150 students per promotion for a course of approximately three years. Inaugurated in 2021, the Nice branch of L’École 42, the first international network of training for excellence in IT professions (which has 19 partner campuses around the world), will therefore eventually welcome 450 students.

For Rachid Abarki, director of 42 Nice: “What influenced our decision was all the investments made by the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis in terms of accessibility. Our building is located 15 minutes from the city center, 5 minutes from the airport and less than 10 minutes from the main roads… This visibility and this proximity were essential, both for students and for businesses in the area. “. Centrale Méditerranée: This new campus will offer a complete offer in engineering from bachelor’s to doctorate. It will contribute to “consolidating the scientific and academic positioning of Centrale Marseille in the South region, will make it possible to forge new partnerships with companies in Nice, to enrich its training in innovation and develop its entrepreneurial sector, by forging links with local incubators, to offer excellent training to our future students,” emphasizes Carole Deumié, director of the school.

The Higher Institute of Communication and Advertising (Iscom) is a network of ten higher communication schools which trains students for positions of responsibility combining strategic vision and operational mastery of the communication function in the company. ISCOM offers two-year training with BTS Communication, five-year Grande Ecole program as well as three international courses. The school chose to open an establishment in Nice because “the city is recognized worldwide as a center of activity and innovation.

Indeed, it is dynamic, with strong economic potential, and renowned for its strong event and tourist dimension”. With this new establishment directed by Sylvie Gillibert, the institute wishes to support the communication sector and professions through various events (Grand Forum, Audacity Week, thematic seminars, Cité des entrepreneurs, etc.). “You can’t move a city forward without its young people. We want to help build the Nice of tomorrow,” adds its director. Pioneer of inclusive digital training in France and abroad, Simplon.co launched on November 25 with Meta, Facebook’s parent company, the Académie du Métavers de Nice, an inclusive and free training course entirely dedicated to trades. Metaverse and immersive technologies.

The objective will be to train around twenty students per city and per class in the new shortage occupations identified by France Skills: that of designer developer specializing in immersive technologies and metaverses (virtual, augmented and mixed reality), and that of support technician /assistance. Dedicated to lifelong vocational training, the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts (Cnam) is “an old house that will operate all its transitions”, according to Patricia Fresneau, director. The Cnam is open to all those who wish to update their knowledge: employees, job seekers, self-employed, students, apprentices. It offers 168 training courses (building engineers, ecology, economics, cybersecurity, technology, etc.). 252 students are enrolled in Nice, particularly in the construction industry. Isart Game Business School will open its doors in Nice Méridia from the start of the 2023 school year.

Considered one of the best schools in the world for video games, ISART is already present in Paris and Montreal. In Nice, 200 students will have the opportunity to follow a new course that combines video games, digital image technologies, artificial intelligence and data. The school will first be located in Nice-Premium next to École 42, before moving to an eco-campus by 2025, specially built for it, the project for which was unveiled on the occasion of SIMI. Eventually, more than 1,000 students are expected to attend. For Christian Estrosi, “the common adventure of Nice and video games has only just begun and the installation of Isart Digital is clearly the first step. For Xavier Rousselle, director and founder of Isart Digital. “With ISART Game Business School we are building complementary bricks to the creative and technological training courses of Isart Paris and Isart Montreal.

We are thus strengthening our strategy of offering our students an even more complete ecosystem that allows them to have a vision of all the professions in the video game sector, and to realize their dream of being a video game professional even better. , with the assurance of sticking to the needs of tomorrow, in an industry in perpetual motion“.
