When the world of data and artificial intelligence intersects with that of La Poste, this results in a new innovative concept: the digital stamp. A new service available early 2023as announced by La Poste on Tuesday, June 28, 2022.
And if you’ve lost the habit of sending letters and postcards because you don’t have a supply of stamps at home, maybe this new feature will make your life easierand will re-motivate you.
Postage a letter from your phone
“A veritable industrial and technological feat, the digital stamp will make it possible to frank mail easily and quickly from your smartphone. Currently being tested, this service will provide the possibility to frank mail in real time, at any time of the day and night »indicates the group in a press release on his site.
“It’s like a letter to the post office in the digital age”, summarized Nathalie Collin, boss of the Consumer and Digital branch of the group, to the press.
An 8-digit code
But how does a digital stamp work? All you need is on your smartphone the La Poste app and buy a virtual stamp : “It comes in the form of an alphanumeric code of eight single-use characters to be entered in pen on an envelope”, in the classic location of a stamp therefore, specifies the public company.
These stamps will be sold at green stamp price (not urgent). The service will be available for mail shipments weighing less than 20 grams to France.
And to succeed in generating several million secure codes with just eight characters”, La Poste has joined forces with its subsidiary Probayes, which specializes in artificial intelligence, to create algorithms derived from cryptography.
800 million euros of investment
This innovative concept is part of a large investment plan of 800 million euros by 2025. The company intends modernize its distribution networkexpand its regional presence with a target of 40,000 postal service points by 2025 and accelerate its digital transformation.
But such a franking service for its online mail represents a challenge for the company, which is aware that 13 million French struggle with digital.
A challenge that La Poste wants to take up, with the implementation, in particular, of mediators and of digital advisors in offices, as well as digital workshops and training for the general public and companies.
