With Health20, French Tech supports health start-ups Computerworld

France wants to restore its image in the field of health. To do this, the government announced in 2021 a plan of 7 billion euros dedicated to the sector. Today, he turns to French Tech to help him in his quest for innovative companies. Result: a support program called Health20 should chaperone 20 health start-ups from the start of 2023.

The mission French Tech continues to expand its offer of support for start-ups in various sectors, considered key to guaranteeing a form of sovereignty. After the Green20 (launched in 2021) dedicated to the ecological transition, Agri20 (launched last March) dedicated to agriculture and food, and DeepNum20 (launched this summer) which focuses on deeptech, health is now propelled to the forefront with the creation of the Health20 program. This device, whose name is reminiscent of that of the annual summit organized by WHOfits into the “Health Innovation 2030” section of the France 2030 government plan announced in October 2021 by Emanuel Macron. Remember that this health component has an envelope of 7 billion euros in July 2021 to “make France the leading European health industry”.

On the occasion, the President of the Republic reiterated this desire to have more predictive and more innovative medicine, supported by technologies such as quantum, artificial intelligence and IoT. The executive had announced that he wanted to “produce 20 biomedicines against cancer, chronic diseases including those related to age and create the medical devices of tomorrow”. Today, Health20 must support 20 selected start-ups evolving in the fields of digital health, infectious and emerging diseases, biotherapies and bioproduction of innovative therapies, biomedicines and innovative medical devices.

The call for applications is launched

To be eligible for the French Tech Health20 program including the call for applications opens today, seedlings must meet a number of criteria. The company must develop what the State calls “disruptive technology”, which corresponds to one of the areas mentioned above. Candidate companies must be independent and have their head office based in France, sovereignty requires. Applications can be submitted until December 4 of this year. Afterwards, these will be studied by the teams of the French Tech mission, experts from the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, and the Ministry of Health and Prevention to preselect the companies that will join the hearing phase. An independent jury made up of leading personalities will then make the final selection of the winners.

A first Health20 promotion will then be offered dedicated support for one year from the competent State services in the targeted areas – via the network of “French Tech correspondents” present in around sixty administrations and public services as well as integration in certain actions of economic diplomacy and actions of visibility. The Ministry of Health and Prevention has also announced its support for the development of these young shoots, specifies François Braun, Minister of Health and Prevention. “The challenges in the field of health are numerous, and the crises we have gone through have shown us, if necessary, the importance of having solutions in France. In this area, start-ups, alongside other players in the sector, have their full role to play. […]. Our services and our agencies – in particular the agency for health innovation and the digital health agency – will be alongside entrepreneurs to enable them to continue to grow their innovations in France”.
