The Saudi Authority for Data and Artificial Intelligence announced the new initiative named Elevate, in association with Google Cloud, during the 2nd Global AI Summit Riyadh on September 15.
Elevate is a global program that aims to use AI to close the gender gap by empowering over 25,000 women worldwide over the next five years. The program will provide free and accessible training to women in the field of technology and science, to empower them and seize the growing number of job opportunities in the field of data and information. artificial intelligence.
Speaking virtually at the event, Princess HafaBintAbdulAzizAl-Muqrin, Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, said women were under-served. represented in the field of AI and technology.
At a time when digital technologies are transforming everyday life, we cannot deny that women are underrepresented in the fields of AI and STEM in general. Women represent only 3% of Nobel laureates in science and only 12% of artificial intelligence researchers in the world, said Princess Al-Muqrin.
She added that this inequality robs the world of enormous untapped talent, insisting that women’s involvement and perspectives are needed in the tech sector to make it work for everyone.
The program has two tracks: the technical track for data engineers, cloud architects, ML engineers and data scientists will account for 30% of trainees in the program. The non-technical path for cloud computing enthusiasts will constitute 70% of the trainees in the program.
