Biotech and Digital: how to train?

On the occasion of the France Bioproduction 2022 Congress, which is being held on April 7 and 8, the French bioproduction sector, grouped together in a leading industrial consortium led by bioMérieux, Novasep, Sanofi and Servier, announces the launch Covering the entire bioproduction chain, will use various innovative digital solutions to promote the understanding of processes and the appropriation of professional practices.

Bioproduction: a major challenge for health systems

A real revolution in the field of medicine, biotherapies, treatments based on the production of molecules (antibodies, proteins, etc.) by living microorganisms, as well as drugs for innovative therapies (viral vectors, gene and cell therapies, etc.). ) now make it possible to treat hitherto incurable diseases – cancers, chronic inflammatory diseases, rare diseases – and to fight against pandemics, while paving the way for increasingly personalized medicine. As such, they constitute a decisive opportunity for patients and their place is growing in the therapeutic solutions developed against these pathologies.

Making these biomedicines accessible to patients therefore constitutes a double challenge, binding on all health actors. On the one hand, it is a question of promoting their development and industrializing their production in France, while guaranteeing quantity and the imperative of quality, speed of production and affordable costs. On the other hand, it is a question of participating in the construction of the health independence of France on the world stage to guarantee the availability of the most innovative treatments for patients.

To meet these challenges, 30 to 40,000 jobs will be created in bioproduction in Europe over the next 10 years.

Mobilization of public authorities and stakeholders in the sector commensurate with the challenges

Led by a leading industrial consortium (Campus Biotech Digital, made up of bioMérieux, Novasep, Sanofi and Servier) and brought together by the Strategic Committee for the Health Industries and Technologies Sector (CSF ITS), the platform aims to ambition to develop breakthrough innovations to increase productivity, produce on French territory, create jobs, and make France a European leader in bioproduction by 2030. The result of collaboration between manufacturers and public authorities, the courses training programs have been built with key players in biotechnology training (EASE, ENSTBB-Bordeaux INP, CPE Lyon, ESTBB, IFIS, IMT Group, MabDesign, Sup’Biotech) and digital (Accenture, Atos, Bearing Point, Capgemini, Domoscio, IBM, Microsoft).

“As part of the work coordinated by the Strategic Committee for the Sector of Health Industries and Technologies (CSF ITS), the campus is one of the founding projects and witness to the unprecedented mobilization of private actors and public authorities around the ambition to make France a European leader in bioproduction by 2030, announces Olivier Bogillot President of the CSF-ITS. With the aim of creating nearly 10,000 direct jobs by 2030 in France, the sector is equipping itself with the campus with an ultra-innovative training and skills development tool that will strengthen our network of experts to exercise their talents throughout the bioproduction value chain and in all territories. I am also delighted with the role it will play in France’s attractiveness at the international level, since the objective is to open this campus internationally very quickly. »

This project is also based on regional relays (Auvergne-Rhône Alpes, Center Val de Loire, Grand Est, Nouvelle Aquitaine) and a future educational resource center on the Sanofi site in Vitry-sur-Seine (Île-de- -France). It is financed by an exceptional public/private partnership*, including €11.75 million as part of the “Engineering of professional and continuing training and innovative offers” scheme operated by Caisse des Dépôts on behalf of the State, to which Added to this is the support of the Interindustrial Skills Operator and that of the Île-de-France Region, as well as a strong mobilization of industrialists in the sector formed in a consortium for an investment of more than €30 million.

Resolutely collaborative and immersive, relies on the agile methodology of ” design process thinking in order to adapt to the innovations of a constantly changing sector. Its offer of initial and continuous training, both complete and personalized, aims to support the strong growth of the sector which plans to create thousands of jobs over the next ten years. Thanks to its 100% digital format, which can also include a face-to-face part, will make it possible to design the training courses of tomorrow.

Covering the entire bioproduction chain, from design to delivery of the product to the patient, uses various digital tools reproducing the essential elements of production (digital twins, serious gamesimmersive reality, virtual reality, augmented reality) and cognitive approaches supported by artificial intelligence to promote the understanding of processes and the appropriation of professional practices.

The training courses, inspired by those provided by flight simulators to train aircraft pilots, will generate added value that is unique in the world in bioproduction at several levels:

  • The acquisition of new skills by employees in the sector will have a positive effect on the performance of industrial players.
  • The arrival on the labor market of young graduates and retraining employees who will be operational more quickly.
  • The training of experts who will become sources of breakthrough innovations, thanks to specific courses.
  • The learning communities will promote the development of networks, the creation of start-ups and inter-company cooperation.

These new training courses are open to everyone, from Bac+2 or +3 levels, from young graduates to employees undergoing professional retraining. Each learner will have a personalized follow-up to better support him in his career, strengthen his employability or even accelerate his integration into a company.

Through the training of these talents, aims to improve access to innovative therapies for as many patients as possible.
