The investor Elon Musk joined Twitter’s board of directors, following its acquisition of shares in the company.

Climate action through digital comes with risks

According to this IPCC report, technologies such as the Internet of Things, robotics and artificial intelligence, can contribute to mitigating climate change and achieving sustainable development goals, for example by improving energy management. and energy efficiency.

On the other hand, also according to the IPCC, these gains can be reduced or offset by the increase in demand for goods and services generated by the use of digital devices, the increase in electronic waste, the exacerbation of the digitalisation, damage to labor markets and inequalities in access to cleaner technologies.

“Technology only supports decarbonization if it is appropriately regulated,” says the IPCC.

European policies to extend the life of devices

Exactly, from new policies of the European Union will affect the life of various electronic products. For example, a bill provides for the return of replaceable batteries in smart phones.

Replaceable batteries have been discarded by manufacturers for various reasons in the design of current phones. However, according to several users, replaceable batteries extend the life of devices and are more recyclable.

If passed, the European Union regulation would require all batteries to be easily removable, replaceable and recyclable.
