DThousands of sensors have been installed in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, along roads and motorways. These sensors which communicate with each other will eventually be able to instantly inform drivers in the event of an accident or traffic incident. #TheyHaveTheSolution
Artificial intelligence at the service of safer driving, it’s for tomorrow! In the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, a system of connected sensors is currently being tested in the city but also on the region’s roads and highways. Mainly tested on the APRR (Autoroute-Paris-Rhin-Rhône) network, these sensors are designed to communicate more effectively with road users and provide instant information on the state of traffic and any incidents.
Once analyzed, the data from these sensors could therefore make it possible, in particular, to avoid additional accidents. “If there is a problem on the road, the connected sensors will send an automatic message to other users, who will travel from vehicle to vehicle by rebound effect. This can help to better anticipate maneuvers”explains Benoît Vuadelle, connected mobility project manager on the APRR road network.
Apart from enhanced safety for users, the device should also make it possible to adopt smoother and therefore more fuel-efficient driving. The project, supported by the European Union, brings together 18 countries that will have to harmonize their procedures and technical means for the implementation of the system by 2040.
In France, tests are continuing at the Transpolis test center in Saint-Maurice-de-Rémens in the Ain department, a city-laboratory of 80 hectares located in the heart of a former military base.
