Economy – The South region is in the top 3 digital regions – Petites Affiches des Alpes Maritimes

Thus, in recent years, leading players have been created, developed or established in the territory: Orange, NXP, Schneider, STMicroelectronics, IBM, in particular. In addition, the region has 4 French Tech labeled territories and the Sophia Antipolis Technopole is a world reference. Research is also rich and recognized and the territory benefits from the strong presence of the National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology (INRIA).

On September 22, François de Canson, vice-president of the region in charge of attractiveness, detailed the regional ambitions in terms of digital at length, on the occasion of the inauguration of the STMicroelectronics site in Toulon. During this official sequence, he expressed his pride in being alongside Michel Rubino, at the origin of the Cartesiam adventure.

Ordinary start-up from Toulon, founded in 2016, Cartesiam is recognized for its skills in embedded Artificial Intelligence. “The Region is proud to welcome a new STMicroelectronics site, with the added soul of Embedded Intelligence, which echoes other major projects using this type of technology. These Varois will swell the 3,000 employees of your group in the region “Launched the representative of Renaud Muselier. And addressing Michel Rubino, he added: “Bravo for this success which proves the quality of the work carried out in the Var and in the South region. Today as in the future, the Region will continue to accompany and support quality initiatives”.

THE SOUTH, 1ST REGION OF FRANCE

Today, the South stands out for its excellence in the segments of the microelectronics sector with leading players covering the entire value chain and strong applications in Smart-City, precision agriculture, health, energy, industry 4.0, autonomous vehicles, e-tourism, the silver economy.

We are the 1st region of France in volume of production of electronic components. The Region, also positioned on connected objects, has been one of the European leaders in the field of Artificial Intelligence, thanks to the Interdisciplinary Institute of Artificial Intelligence (3IA) Côte d’Azur. Finally, it is positioning itself on cybersecurity, for which the Region has decided to adopt a dedicated roadmap”resumed François de Canson.

The region wants to position itself on quantum and industrial 5G, because the health crisis has shown the strategic importance of digital in our economies and, more broadly, in our societies. She also underlined France’s dependence on certain digital technologies and players. Digital appears to be an essential element of the resilience and competitiveness of the regional economy and its sectors.

“President Muselier’s 2021-2028 roadmap is clear: Position the South region as a leader in key technologies of Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity and microelectronics and consolidate its position in the emerging sectors of 5G and quantum. It is a question of consolidating the regional positioning on the three segments which are Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity and microelectronics. Cybersecurity is also a priority for the South Region. Among the priority projects, the establishment of a Computer Security Incident ResponseTeam (CSIRT) is underway. Reflections are also engaged in terms of training and around a potential cyber campus, territorial variation of the national campus. The development of research and innovation will be prioritized around Artificial Intelligence. In addition, microelectronics, the 3rd priority segment, will be consolidated around the Innov’Micro project (Campus of trades and qualifications Industries of the future) and support for the development of an Electronic Valley, around the historic heart of Rousset “. detailed François de Canson.

DEVELOP THE TRAINING OFFER

At the same time, the regional executive will accelerate the increase in skills to amplify the digital transition. Thus, from jobs in tension to anticipating the skills of tomorrow, training, whether initial or continuous, is at the heart of the development challenges of the OIR Smart-Tech.

The Vice-President explained the regional approach: “The aim is to develop the training offer in the digital fields accessible to as many people as possible. Several projects, such as the platform epic or Theodora, are moving in this direction. At the same time, it is necessary to accelerate the deployment of a cutting-edge training offer. Finally, it is a question of supporting the digital transformation of companies through training and the provision of resources (digital coach, Parcours Sud Industrie 4.0, etc.). We want to make the region a pilot territory in the deployment of innovative use cases by strengthening the links between public and private actors. Our objective is to consolidate efforts in terms of open innovation and collaborations between SME contractors and regional start-ups around digital”.
