Pasteurdon 2022: what is it, dates, what are the donations for?

[PASTEURDON 2022] The 16th edition of Pasteurdon takes place from October 5 to 9, 2022. How to make a donation? What will the funds raised be used for?

Pasteurdon: what is it?

Pasteurdon is annual fundraising operation. These funds, essential to the functioning of the Institut Pasteur, provide the necessary resources to 143 research entities to conduct their work and develop cutting-edge technologies in various priority areas. “Funds from the general public (bequests, donations) are very important in financing the activity of the Institut Pasteur. They represent a third of the total research budget, which was 354 million euros in 2021” explains Professor Stewart Cole, Director General of the Institut Pasteur.

“Donations offer an incredible strike force for the advancement of research, both in the short term, when a new epidemic arises for example, and in the long term for fundamental work aimed at deciphering the complexity of living things” adds Antoine Bogaerts, Director of Philanthropy at the Institute.

Research themes:

  • Emerging infectious diseases.
  • Cerebral connectivity and neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Resistance to antimicrobial agents.
  • Cancer.
  • Vaccinology.
  • Artificial intelligence.

When does Pasteurdon take place in 2022?

The 16th edition of Pasteurdon takes place from October 5 to 9, 2022.

This year again, as has been the case since 2011, the actress Alexandra Lamy is the patron of Pasteurdon. “The work of Louis Pasteur, his freedom of thought but also his convictions have laid the foundations of the research carried out here at the Institut Pasteur. From generation to generation, the diversity and complementarity of researchers from the Institut Pasteur and their work enables major scientific advances, and I am delighted to be the spokesperson for this cause to which I am attached,” she explains.

Pasteurdon: how to make a donation?

In 2022, it is possible to make a donation:

Pasteurdon: an auction in 2022

On the occasion of the bicentenary of the birth of Louis Pasteur, the Institute is launching an unprecedented collection of NFT (title of ownership of a unique, digital or virtual work, of a video, of a text, of a sound or an image, protected, traceable and tamper-proof). Inspired by the avant-garde spirit of Louis Pasteur, 200 unique digital artworks have been created. This collection uses as its main image the iconic portrait made by the French artist Paul Nadar in 1886 on which various filters and effects are applied to create a series of contemporary works.

The sale, intended for the general public, will take place from October 8 to 20 through the Artspray website. All profits from the sale will be donated to the benefit of research at the Institut Pasteur.

Pasteurdon: what are the donations used for?

In 2021, the operation raised more than 2.6 million euros. For 100 euros collected:

  • 78 euros are intended for carrying out the missions of the Institut Pasteur (research, public health, education)
  • 13 euros are devoted to the costs of appealing to the generosity of the public
  • 9 euros contribute to operating costs

It should be noted that funding a research unit for one year costs 1 million euros. And that an electron microscope costs from 100,000 to several million euros.
