To learn a lot about measurement in science, the National Metrology and Testing Laboratory invites you on Saturday October 15, 2022 to a discovery day, filled with activities and workshops.
The Fête de la Science returns for a new edition still rich in discoveriesin workshops and in demonstrations of all kinds, from October 7 to 17, 2022. On this occasion, the National Metrology and Testing Laboratory opens its doors to budding scientists, on Saturday October 15 only, in order to discover the full extent of the world of measure.
Several major themes will thus be honoured, through events and workshops intended for all the family. In a world subject to climate changeair and water pollution, measurement is more than ever at the heart of environmental issues and health. You will discover how these measurements allow you to better understand the mechanisms impacting our environment and our health.
You will perceive the vital role that measurement plays a part in everyday life, whether on a market stall or at the gas pump. The curious will also be able to understand the principle of measuring a blood alcohol level or even observe the effects of different lighting systems on our visual perception.
Finally, in the presence of several intelligent robots and systemsvisitors will be able to discover how we evaluate theartificial intelligence of a humanoid robot, a connected object or even a voice assistant, and understand the principles of data scienceclosely linked to theartificial intelligence.
On the program of the Science Festival 2022 at the National Metrology and Testing Laboratory:
- The science of measurement: LNE opens its doors
Global warming, nanoparticle, artificial intelligence or radioactivity, measurement is essential to understand the world around us. During its open days, the LNE will offer visitors, through a series of workshops and visits, to discover the full extent of the world of measurement. The world of nanomaterials: knowing their history, how they work and how to measure them. Measurement of radioactivity: natural and industrial exposure: understanding the orders of magnitude of exposure. Measurement of acidity: knowing the role of global warming in the acidification of the oceans. Artificial intelligence: how to evaluate a robot or software? …
Here are some of the many topics that will be covered by nearly twenty workshops around everyday subjects, such as the calibration of a bathroom scale, as well as cutting-edge topics (redefinition of the second, low frequency measurements…).
From the basements to the roof of the laboratory, offering a breathtaking view of Paris, visitors will be able to walk the corridors of the LNE and discover state-of-the-art facilities for measuring long distances as well as measuring pressure and force.
Several virtual tours of new laboratories in electrical or environmental measurement will also be offered!
(presentation of an identity document required)
Good visit !
