A time series, in the context of AI and data analysis, refers to a sequence of data points collected at regular intervals over time. Time series data is characterized by its temporal ordering, where each data point is associated with a specific timestamp. This type of data is commonly found in various domains, such as finance, economics, weather forecasting, and industrial processes. Time series analysis involves techniques that aim to understand patterns, trends, and dependencies within the data over time.

Analyzing time-dependent patterns can lead to insights into cyclic behavior, seasonality, and trends that may not be apparent in other data formats. Time series forecasting, a prominent application, involves predicting future values based on historical patterns. AI methods, including autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) models, exponential smoothing, and more recently, deep learning techniques like recurrent neural networks (RNNs) and long short-term memory (LSTM) networks, have been developed to handle time series data with varying degrees of complexity and accuracy.
