Placed 129th in the ranking of the best smart hospitals in the world by the American magazine Newsweek, the Claude Huriez hospital (Lille University Hospital) is now internationally recognized as one of the best hospitals in the world this year, which confirms the positioning of Hauts- de-France, as a leading region! We tell you more.
As every year, a ranking of “best smart hospitals in the world” is produced by the American magazine Newsweek. And if the year 2022 is no exception, the entry of the University Hospital of Lille can only stand out!
The Lille University Hospital, one of the best smart hospitals in the world?
Based on a survey of more than 40,000 experts, in partnership with the global research firm Statisticsthe American magazine Newsweek established the classification of “World’s Best Smart Hospitals 2023“.
To do this, various criteria were evaluated in hospitals in 28 countries around the world: the use of Artificial Intelligence, digital imaging, telemedicine, robotics or even electronic functionalities.
As such, the University Hospital of Lille has distinguished itself, and in particular its Claude Huriez hospital thanks to its use of Telemedicine. Ranked 129th out of 300, the Hauts-de-France hospital is the 5th in France to be included in this ranking, and the first outside the capital!
What is a “smart” hospital?
Living in an increasingly connected world, hospital technologies have evolved to ensure the best possible healthcare for their patients.
A hospital is said to be “smart” if it uses “cutting-edge technologies to fundamentally rethink how care is delivered within the healthcare system”. Nancy Cooper, editor of Newsweek magazine.
These technologies are based in particular on the use of Artificial Intelligence, robotics and digital imagery (among others), all interconnected to the hospital network, in order, in particular, to better disseminate and share information and thus, to improve the efficiency of the care administered in hospitals.
Newsweek’s ranking of the world’s best hospitals 2022
If the University Hospital of Lille is ranked as one of the best smart hospitals in the world in 2023, French hospitals do not only radiate their “intelligence”! In 2022, the ranking of the best hospitals in the world was produced by Newsweek, and France was able to assert itself!
Assessed in 10 specialties (cardiology, oncology, cardiac surgery, pediatrics, endocrinology, gastroenterology, orthopedics, neurology, neurosurgery and pulmonology), more than 2,200 hospitals spread across the world were studied and classified according to three main criteria : the “peer recommendation” at national and international level, medical performance indicators and the patient’s experience during his stay in hospital.
Within the 27 countries studied, 21 are in the top 150 worldwide, and France (and its University Hospital of Lille) finds itself very well placed:
1st: United States – 33 hospitals;
2nd: Germany – 14 hospitals;
Joint 3rd: Italy and France – 10 hospitals each;
4th: South Korea – 8 hospitals.
But that’s not all, the University Hospital of Lille was also listed in this ranking and is positioned 47th in neurology, 90th in neurosurgery, 117th in endocrinology, 124th in gastroenterology and finally, 257th in cardiology!
